SUMMER ROCK CAMP WEEK 2013
What a fantastic week!
Well done to all the students that took part, you all worked so hard.
Day 1
The week started at 9.30am at The Norwich Music HubΒ with a brief from me and Adam Darricott. Guys and Gals were then split into there bands and had to come up with a band name. Some interesting names where chosen! ‘The Interceptors’ ‘Justin in time’ ‘Spud Fusion’ ‘Daniels band’ and ‘Running from the dead’. Each band then had a room to start rehearsing and getting toΒ knowΒ there new Β band members, with one of 2 classic rock tunes to learn and perform on the Sunday evening. Enter Sandman by Metallica and Highway to Hell by ACDC.
Day 2
The day started again at 9.30am with a chat from me and Adam. Bands then rehearsed hard again there classic rock tune. In the afternoon the bands were rotated.Β Taking turns having masterclasses with me on the classic rock song arrangements, and in rehearsal rooms with Adam Darricott who then helped the students, to start writing their 2nd performance piece which was to be their own composition.
Day 3
9.30am The bands now have a lot to practice. Each band rehearses hard all day with me and Adam spending time in each rehearsal room helping with their 2 performance pieces. I noticed the students starting to be really creative and more confident in their bands.
Day4
9.30am practice, rehearsals, and more practice! Today saw lots of blisters appearing on drummers hands and guitarists fingers! Students however seemed very proud of these. In the afternoon each band had 40minutes of stage craft study with Adam, along with watching videos of classic performances and taking notes. Students came from Adams class with lots of confidence and ideas. Stick twirling, head banging, and rock stances were the order of the afternoon, getting ready for their mock performance day tomorrow to fellow students.
Day5
9.30am Mock performance day! Students took to the stage upstairs at the Hub. Each band performed their 2 songs with a judging panel of me, Adam, and guest bass player for the teacher band Owen Morgan. Constructive criticism was given to each band. They then had to regroup and practice details for yet another performance in the afternoon.
The week finishedΒ Friday 2nd Aug at 3.30pm. Saturday and Sunday was needed to rest. Ready then for the big performance evening at Open in Norwich!
